Keira Knightley

Red carpets shine as you see celebrities walk on them, showing off the latest designer dresses and feeding the cameras with dazzling smiles. With modern society’s fixation on big busts, it is somewhat surprising when you encounter Hollywood representing a different trend of “being”— being small busted that is. To these particular stars that flaunt the red carpet, their bust size does not determine their success. They blossom along with the movies and TV shows they are part of and their movies are critically-acclaimed-box-office-material.

Among those who rock the carpet are “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days” actress Kate Hudson (yes, even before her rumoured boob-job), Oscar award-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, and Boleyn girl star Natalie Portman. For Kate, whether its see-through, plunging necklines or tube dresses— she imbibes and carries her dresses fabulously! Gwyneth’s Ralph Lauren dress worn during her award winning night at the Oscar’s went on to become one of her memorable looks, despite defying traditional subdued tones with its all-over Barbie pink. Natalie Portman exudes fashion with class in all of her simple but glamorous dress choices. Other “A” list celebrities include Keira Knightley, Michelle Pffeifer, Lucy Liu, Kate Bosworth, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Ellen Pompeo, Zoe Saldana, Cate Blanchett and the list doesn’t end there! Silicone is not always the most coveted accessory in tinsel town. Celebrities with small breasts hold their own glamour and elegance, showing that they are sexy and they rock!

Often times we view celebrities as the trendsetters in fashion. Not all of us follow or are able to see the latest fashion trends on the runway itself, but we all catch a glimpse of those dresses being worn by famous celebrities on the net, magazines or even on your TV screens through daily entertainment news. And despite the media enforcing ideals on the ever-enlarging sizes of breasts, there are celebrities who take pride of their modestly-sized breasts. And yes, they still look good and beautiful. Question is, how do they do it? Most of the time people tend to copy everything they see on their screens without knowing if it actually fits their body shape. Fact is, most women are unaware of what clothes or bra styles they can wear which would tremendously change look on their breasts. Even though we are flat-chested, there are ways to create an illusion of having bigger and fuller breasts through fashion. As such, it is important to understand which bras and dress style/ designs will flatter your breasts.

Here some Hollywood A-list tips:

1.  Know your correct bra size.

Understand that there aren’t many sellers catering for bra sizes below 32A. Don’t compromise on it just because it’s the smallest size available in the store, or wait around for big brands to cater to AA cups. Thankfully, there are those who understand the specialist needs of a small bust and you can search for them through the wonder which is the internet. Having the correct bra size will make your clothes fit better and thus, help you achieve your desired look. Buying a bigger bra size is not going to make you look bigger- it’s just going to gape and give you unnatural lines. Even if you go down a bra size from what you were wrongly wearing, a correctly fitting bra can make you look bigger as the padding (in the case of push up bras) will sit better and actually do its job to create cleavage! Different brands can also fit differently so don’t insist on sticking to the same bra size across all of them. If it doesn’t fit, change it! When creating a fuller bust, push-up bras, moulded cups, balcony bras, or gel bras are indeed your breast friend. To start with, balcony bras are usually cushioned and work perfectly well on low cut tops. Moulded cups give shape to your busts, making them seem rounder. Underwire helps the band sit firmly below your bust and not ride up, which is important especially in heavily padded bras. Most bras are padded with foam which work fine for most, but some feel gel and liquid padding provide a more natural look as the pliable material moulds better to your body. You can even get sports bras with foam cups to give you coverage and a bit of volume even in the gym. These bra styles can be found in small bust speciality stores and are often called a “Double Gel Bra”, “Padded Sports Bra” or a “Strapless Gel Bra”. They can miraculously increase your bust size by up to two cups (look at Paris Hilton for proof). Just be sure to balance out the rest of your outfit with your new bust.

2. Pick the right outfit

Celebrity A-cups wear their outfits with pride and elegance – and so should you! Take from Keira Knightley for example, even in her most baring outfits, you can see her strutting her “barely there” breasts on the red carpet. She even got angry with American editors who edited her picture for her film, King Arthur. Draw the eye upwards with brightly coloured tops or prints, patterns, embellishments, and details such as buttons, embroidery or small ruffles situated at the heart of your bust. Celebrities like Paris Hilton have influenced the trend on wearing bold colors and clothes, helping to divert attention to the right places. Wear simple and dark coloured skirts and trousers if you have a heavier bottom to avoid drawing attention where you don’t want it to go. Make use of dress lines to lead people’s eyes to your other body parts, such as the arms. For example, wear sleeveless tops/dresses and stay away from plunging V-neck tops or low scoop-neck tops with three quarter sleeves which accentuate your chest and shorten your arms – not a great thing for petite frames. Kate Bosworth lives out this fashion rule as she sports several sleeveless outfits 4 that enliven her whole outlook. Empire waistlines are also great at emphasizing the bust. Going for sleeveless tops and cocktail dresses which are made out of flowing fabric below the cinched waistline will also hide any tummies or add volume to a small frame.

3. Make up

Observe the glossy magazine covers carefully and you’ll realize many smaller busted celebrities shade in their cleavage with makeup. Simply draw a line down the middle of your breasts with highlighter and shade it in. Then sweep bronzer in half moon circles over the top of your breasts. Fuller breasts in an instant!
These days, you’ll realise that Hollywood can actually seem to be quite diverse in representing celebrities of different shapes and sizes. Somehow, being small busted poses no problems on the red carpet. Our favourite “A” list celebrities or their stylists are masters at clever manipulation of their outfit to celebrate their natural figures – good news, when you consider the amount of women, teenage girls, and increasingly younger children who follow them incessantly for anything. Being beautiful is by being beautiful inside out. Whether small busted or petite, your beauty is harmonized and balanced by a fashionable outfit and your own characteristics—that is, your confidence, your creativity and your grace!

Of the women at the left, whose bangers indeed have the same ones like yours?

Undeniably, 57% of women in general would like to have bigger boobs and 47% of which hate their boobs. Big numbers, I might say. What this also means is that a lot of women also have a distorted perception of their actual bust size, usually leading to incorrect bra sizes. Specifically, it’s said that 70% women are still clueless of their bra sizes!

Are you wearing the wrong bra size?

Do you experience straps falling down constantly or straps that dig into your back? Are your underwires poking and are there any signs of pink marks or swelling when you take your bra off? If so, then these are no doubt signs that you have the wrong size. Having the right fit is supremely important to comfort and supporting the rest of your outfit. For women hoping to increase their bust size with a push up bra, the right fit becomes even more important.

Have a look at this entertaining and very informative video that inspired this blog post:

Can you believe that all the women in that video had the same bra size!? When Gok Wan announced that they all had the same size, I was shocked! It’s amazing to see the amount of difference that the type of bra can make to how you look. How much more confident was Jenny afterwards too!?

Gok Kwan in the video above, wittingly suggested 3 simple steps in getting that bra to fit just right and how to select a flattering bra to enhance your curves. They are as follows:

1.)  When fitting, fit on the loosest hook and eye. Bra elastics will stretch over time, but there’s no need to worry as you can graduate the hooks as needed.

Photos are courtesy of Gok Kwan’s video on How to Look Good Naked – Perfect Bra Fitting

2.)  Give it a jiggle. This is not the dance, you don’t have to get “jiggy” with it. Instead, bend over and hold your bra at the sides to secure your puppies in. This helps your boob sit nicely in the center of your bra cups.

3.)  Adjust the straps so that they are comfortable on your shoulder. If one strap is not aligned with the other one, no need to worry, as breasts do come in different sizes.

Different types of bras makes the boobs appear more rounded, firmer and give you more cleavage. So, why invest in expensive surgery when you can have the right the bra that will lift, give full coverage and contour your small breasts? Small busted women can still choose to look nice if they have the right bra fitting. And if you want to enhance your bust volume, there are many bras to choose from, you can choose from (as mentioned in the video) a Double Gel Bra, a Padded Sports Bra or a Strapless Gel Bra depending on your outfit and desired activity. At Sugarchilli, we’ve already categorised our bras by “bust boost ratings” so you can even choose how much of a lift you’d like tonight. So, grab that bra (and your wallet/ credit card) and most importantly, try them on until you get the right fit!
