Swimwear for Small Busts

BRA

If you thought the “push-up” bra was one of the newest and ingenious products ever made, think again! Women’s needs for support, coverage and bust-boosting have existed for centuries as demonstrated by the photo above of an 18th century bust enhancing bra. Indeed, our bust enhancing technology has come a very long way.

In the earlier periods, the closest to having a “push up bra” was that of the stripped cloth and the corset. During the 1800’s women with voluptuous bodies were thought of as people with money. Thus, having a healthy figure, meant that she or her family had the means to provide for food. So flaunting a little cleavage and a curvy figure was a good thing back then. On the other hand, the Greeks and Romans found that small breasts had a smoother contour than that of the big breasted. As such, big breasted women were told to wear corsets, which basically squashed everything.1 Thus, breathing was not an option. Of course, corsets were also used to enhance and push up busts, albeit with a very tight fitting.2 Good thing for us these days however, we have the choice to just enhance, rather than being unable to breathe!

Today, youth and the idea of what is seen as a desired physical appearance is typically defined by the bosom blessed. American media has long bombarded and influenced the “sexy-big-boob” culture. So what about us smaller busted women?! Like our century older counterparts in the 1800’s, small busted women also like to flaunt their God given bosoms too. The question is how? Thank God for modern push up bras or other moulded cup technology and not corsets, breathing is now possible! Unlike corsets, push up bras and moulded cups also mean comfort, typically made of a cotton or polyester fabric and coupled with decorative lace. For further bust boosting while still retaining comfort, some push up bras include padding inside of the cups. A moulded cup bra also makes the bra seem invisible to even the tightest fitting clothing. These bras contour the owner’s breast which is great for cupping breasts—thus giving it a fuller shape and definition. For some, this is also called the seamless style bra—a must for all the small busted.

We should not be ashamed of being small busted. Great inventions (the push up bra) have rooted from small busted needs. Taking note of that, stand up and be proud. Modern standards of beauty especially in defining what is attractive and what isn’t have evolved. And yes, there are men who love the small busted too, they aren’t just from the 1800’s or Greeks or Romans either (just check out this video here for proof)! Being proud, means loving, flaunting or even enhancing them. Enhancing your small boobs isn’t a bad thing either. If you want to flaunt your girls, no one is stopping you. Flaunting also means you’re proud with what you have and you have that confidence with your whole body. And if you want to enhance, there are many bras to choose from, you can choose from a Double Gel Bra, a Padded Sports Bra or a Strapless Gel Bra. All of which bring a natural, more confident new you and you can be certain that these products are fitted for the small busted. You’ll just have to find the right size that fits you well. Be proud to be small busted, we are the influencer—meaning, we have the choice, we can be flat and we can also be voluptuous. Love your body, own it and celebrate being unique!

SugarchilliTV is launched! Our first episode is a guide to some of the great products that cater to small busts and petite frames. For too long Australia has been without access to these great products – but now they’re here!

The Sugarchilli story started as a personal experience when we struggled to find push up bikinis that gave enough support via underwire, padding, or moulded cups.

We soon realised that we weren’t alone. Many of our friends also complained about the lack of products and the internet forums were also not dissimilar. It was completely puzzling as to why small busts weren’t catered for!? If bigger women have a large range of products that allow them to shape and dress how they want, why can’t smaller women too? And it wasn’t just small busts, women with petite frames couldn’t find products that were sized for them.

Frustrated that there were no current solutions, we took matters into our own hands and created Sugarchilli Bras & Bikinis.

To start off  all our current items have push up technology. But we’ll introduce additional products later on such as soft cups or non-underwired bras. Of course, they will remain handpicked to suit small busts and petite frames.

So what are the little differences that make a bra great for small busts or petite frames?

(We’ve actually written a detailed post with many pictures here - “push up bras for small busts” but you can read on for a quick summary)

To start off, in our basics range you’ll find that they either contain liquid, gel or foam padding.

Liquid padding is fantastic in an everyday bra because it really gives you a natural shape and is super comfortable. Liquid padding accommodates easily, making it comfortable for the many different shaped busts that women have. Thanks to clever design, they also don’t “slosh” about once put on. Liquid padded bras are also commonly known as water bras.

Some of our bras contain gel padding, which tends to be firmer but also lighter. This lends itself to applications such as strapless bras where you don’t have the hanging support of shoulder straps (unlike the heavier liquid pads which are supported by straps).

Our fashion bras contain an amazing amount of padded foam. These must be seen to be believed. We can guarantee if you have no boobs that these will give you boobs.

Sometimes, one of the concerns of using padding, particularly foam padding is it giving your bust a “fake” look. This happens where the padding is applied to the wrong areas of your bust and adversely affects the shape of your bust. From experimenting on all our friends, we find that it’s imperative that the right size and fit is achieved first. Once you have the right size, the padding then works on the correct areas of your bust. Get the right size, and you usually don’t have to worry.

Whoever thought of applying the same push ideas to bikinis is a genius! All our current bikinis come from a Japanese brand (more brands coming in next spring) and all of them come with underwire, padding, inserts, and moulded cups. We’ve actually written post just about bikinis with plenty of photos to show“How to flatter a small bust with bikinis”. Have a look if you’re interested.

Over the next few months, Sugarchilli will be adding more high quality products to the catalogue and continue to make sure that our Aussie women aren’t missing out on all the great things that are available around the globe.

And for this, we need your help. We’ve got a pretty good idea of what products are still needed but if there’s been something you’ve had trouble looking for – why not let us know! Post your idea/want/need/rant in the comments below and we’ll keep our eyes out for you!

What swimwear best suits a small bust? There are a few key things to look for when you’re shopping for the perfect set:

1. Underwire

Underwired bikini tops will sit firmly below your bust to give you support and push-up your breasts. It’s also very important for holding up any padding and extra inserts you place into the top to increase your cleavage (you don’t want sagging)! Not to mention, it gives the cups that rounded shape to give you the illusion of a bigger bust.

2. Moulded cups

Moulded cups are the opposite of soft cups. They are made of firm material so that they retain their rounded shape on their own- regardless of whether you’re wearing them or they’re sitting in your closet. If you are small busted, moulded cups are are a God-sent as they create curves out of nowhere.

3. Padding

Padded within the cups will lift your breasts to make them appear bigger and create cleavage.

Of course, if the top has bra pockets for EXTRA inserts- even better we say! Fabric/foam bikini inserts and silicone bikini inserts are among the different types of inserts available for you to boost your bust further. Fabric/foam inserts are lightweight so are great for lounging around the pool or beach or one-off dips and swims. However, they do absorb water so may make you slightly uncomfortable if you’re planning on staying in your bikini for a long period of time (this is down to a matter of personal preference though- this may bother some, whereas others aren’t bothered at all). Silicone inserts are 100% waterproof so are ideal for long-term wear (even though they’re slightly heavier- but this really doesn’t matter as long as you have good straps to hold up your bikini!).

Remember- don’t try to stuff bikini inserts into your top if it doesn’t have bra pockets. The pockets are crucial for holding them in place while you move about and swim! You really don’t want anything migrating or slipping out when you’re out and about in public.

4. Halter-neck styles

Choose styles with ribbons/straps that you can tie around your back and neck. This will allow you to tie them as tight as you like and adjust how much cleavage you want. Halter neck styles will bring it the sides of your breast to create cleavage- just remember to adjust the sides of your cups to hug the sides of your breasts properly and bring them inwards. Also make sure the band/underwire sits flat against your skin beneath your bust so that your breasts sit properly in the cups.

5. Wear frills, patterns or loud/bright colours on top and dark, monotone colours on the bottom
This will draw eyes upwards and emphasize your bust- an especially good trick if you’re pear-shaped.

We love red!

6. Avoid bandeaus styles like the plague
We are sorry to say this but they really do squish your boobs flat and hide whatever cleavage you have…what more need we say?

Check out our store for bikinis which have all of the above, as well as fabric/foam and silicone bikini inserts!
